About Us

Lāhui ʻo Koʻolauʻoa is the sole club practicing, instructing and perpetuating outrigger canoe paddling and it’s traditions in the entire moku of Koʻolauloa, extending from from Kualoa to Waimea. We developed out of need for these traditions to continue into the future in this place.

Our paddling ʻohana, while going back many years, made a commitment to creating the community and the culture of canoe paddling here in Kahana Bay not too long ago, in 2014. There had not been an active canoe club in this beautiful bay for close to thirty years when our hui gathered to celebrate the past and build an understanding of our history into the future.

From keiki to kupuna, all are welcome as part of our ʻohana. We have programs reflecting those needs, and we are constantly building our hui into one better-suited to our cause, be it development of our keiki in and out of the canoe, spreading cultural awareness and ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi within our club and to those around us, or seeking non-profit status at the organizational level.

Our club comes together to pule and oli before every race and at the end of every practice. We established our hui on the values of those before us, and we seek to empower every paddler that jumps in our waʻa to do better, in any way they can. We are one ʻohana, working together.
