Na Oli (Chants)

In Hawaiian Culture chants were used to help accomplish tasks using the mana in our voices. Here you will find some of the chants we use here at Lahui O Ko’olauloa CC.

E ala e Kahiki e

E Ala E Kahiki E

(Oli Kahea)

Alaka’i:

 E ala e Kahiki e!

(Arise, all from Kahiki and beyond!)

Hui:

E ala e Kahiki e

E ala e Kahiki e

(Arise, all from Kahiki and beyond! )

(Arise, all from Kahiki and beyond!)

E hume ka malo

A ai ka ai

(Pull on your Malo and ready yourself)

E hopu ka lima i ka hoe

(Grasp with your paddle with your hands)

A hoea!

(And paddle!)

This oli/chant was used to inspire, awaken  and hype-up the paddler and their crew. To arise and prepare yourself for the journey over the ocean. This oli is repeated three times and  modulates slightly each time.
